Cleaning the Stadium...

I will just say that that was the most disgusting thing I have ever done. The display of wanton wastage, if that's an acceptable phrase, was revolting. Consumerism at its worst. A Western country's greed... I could stand in front a seat, and pick up more than forty plastic 375ml beer bottles without moving my feet. We were ankle deep in these bottles, along with water bottles, a few plastic wine bottles (no glass at the Stadium) and a truckload of wasted food. Every single aisle was absolutely jammed with this mess. And we had to clean three sections. Apparently it will be worse tomorrow night. OMG it was absolutely foul. How could so many people drink so much, waste so much, make such an unholy mess (no bins because of security risks so what do they expect)... it was just awful! I wore two sets of gloves, I changed gloves four times, I picked up every bottle, cap, scrap, paper, streamers, crap that you could imagine. It was so incredibly, disgustingly, foully gross!!!
We got home at three a.m. and I let Christy have first shower.
Now I am clean and going to bed. *shudder* Please, dear Flist, never offer to do that job! Perhaps not even for charity!
That's a challenge I shall not be repeating!
Good night. Morning. Whatever.

I wouldn't mind cleaning up mess generally but I think the wanton waste would get to me. So obscene how much is wasted and drunk. All that plastic too. Did you take any pictures?

Yeah, it's the waste that got to me. So little beer, in such small bottles, each with a lid, a cardboard holder for each set of four, it'd be better to have a bigger bottle, surely. But this is a special occasion...
-Did you take any pictures?
no I didn't take my camera. Should have used my phone, huh.

And we WON! *g*

*hopes you at least feel a little bit virtuous*

The no bins policy is inevitable but has a lot to answer for - there's the same problem on trains and stations. And yes, wanton wastage describes it all well - if you don't want the food, don't buy it or unwrap it in the first place!

I've never heard of that job being 'on offer' here, even for charity - the charity workers might be terrorists, you see. You'd need a police check, first!!

OMG that takes the fear of terrorism to a new level. We were all just innocent people raising money! I'd hate to think it could get like that here, but we're not much of a target!!!
