Phil Gulley... and me...

I just found out I had an Inbox on my LJ! I had never looked before. I really don't get much time to hang around here so I don't do much investigating. I looked at a few pages of it but it just contained LJ comments, 134 pages of them. I deleted the lot *g* They're all there on my LJ so I don't think I need a copy in my heretofore unknown Inbox. So. That was my pc housework for the day.

helen_c has been very clever and sent me a heap of pics of churches in her part of the world. I am so lucky! I'll be adding some of them to my 'file' for teaching Church Architecture later in the year. Thanks again, dear Helen xx Merci beaucoup

It's pouring here. We had a heap of heavy rain warnings for the north and south today. After the 6 teenagers and their teacher drowning a fortnight ago in a flash flood, the weather people don't want to get blamed for anything, I bet. It stayed fine here today but now it's really heavy rain. I like going to bed when it's raining, hearing the rain on the corrugated iron roof, it sounds great. It makes me feel much cosier in bed.

Steve is away up north tomorrow so we're on our own for the rest of the week. That should be quite nice too, relaxing before the second term gets going next week. But oh dear, I'd love another week off! I'm barely getting started on the jobs that need doing around here, let alone any schoolwork OMG!

Oh, and Phil Gulley's sermon on maturity was good today. All about putting troubles in perspective, and being grown up about it. I really liked it. He said Perspective: the ability to give situations and circumstances their appropriate weight. Perspective is that calm voice in us that opens the door when hysteria comes knocking.
It's good to get a reality check now and then, see if your problems are really big or just little ones. And therefore, what kind of a fuss are you making? -It is a bit humbling, but also comforting, and a bit liberating to realize that many of the burdens we carry exist mostly in our minds. There was a good bit he quoted from someone else about a lump, and being able to tell the difference between a lump in your porridge, a lump in your throat and a lump in your breast... Phil's approach to life levels me in ways nothing else can.

Wait, that @livejournal.com adress on the profile page actually leads somewhere??? Huh, I'll need to go take a look.

Il n'y a vraiment pas de quoi. :) I'm only glad my near-pathological tendency to take pictures of anything and everything can be useful from time to time...

Yeah! I remember emailing someone one time ages back to ask them if they didn't want to be friends any more, and I got no reply, but I didn't know that I had one of those LJ emails as well! I hope she never replied there, I looked back through ten pages out of 134 just in case then gave up! Then again, she finally unfriended me this morning so... OMG!

Glad to fuel your near-pathological tendency *g*

It's pouring in London too.
It's raining more than at any stage since I started working here.

That's awful. Poor you.
No wonder Viv wanted to get away from the rain.

No, no, no. It's been beautifully blues skied on Merseyside, as she has been pointing out to me all day.

Definitely a good topic!

I didn't know about this lj inbox thing either! Crazy!

Yeah, I guess we have to make time to just look around these sites. Who knows, maybe it is a new addition?! Oh well.

Yeah, it's hard to be the grown up sometimes, even when I am one! My sister in law had been going 'no speaks' with her mother, something her family is rather good at, and last week she decided to do the adult thing and call her mother on the phone. Her mother said, 'sorry, I am too busy to talk to you just now'. I think if we regress into childish behaviour, which is really easy *g* one of the parties needs to be adult about it in order to resolve it, huh.

Exactly! So we all end up being childish and it seems like capitulation to try to end the childishness and you even get knocked for trying that sometimes. And yet it's what we all need to do more of, to make a more peaceful world for ourselves and, well, for the world.

We need little reminders on our shoulders saying, hey, lighten up and be mature about this... Jiminy Cricket? Some ethics reading I've been doing says ALWAYS listen to your conscience.

I looked at that inbox thing and was scared of deleting the messages in case it deleted the comments themselves... if it doesn't, then I might get round to it! I've occasionally tried contacting someone through their LJ address if it's the only one in their profile and it seems to work so I wonder if the messages are just copies of whatever gets notified to you at your proper address. *is mystified by LJ as usual*

And April has been, quite properly and traditionally, a constant mixture of sunshine and heavy showers. Throughout UK. So everybody is right! At least the temperatures are improving.

OMG I hope that didn't happen for me!! I am NOT going to check LOL!

It sure has rained here for over a week, despite fine days in between. The parks are water logged.

When I have a spare minute I shall go and experiment in my old LJ but I shall be careful not to let you know when, or whether anything disappears!!! LOL!
