Musing in the Spirit

After the funeral the other day, I had to get to the church for the sacramental programme. I'm teaching the children about confirmation, my favourite sacrament! The idea of being empowered by the Holy Spirit to be loving, joyful, peaceful, kind, good, patient and to have self-control, it's all about good gifts! The Codfish came down to join in (sitting at the back behind me, the weirdo) and at the end he listened to the children as they asked me questions. See, I told them they needed to pray and did they know how. They said such amazing things. I asked them how they could hear God talking to them and they suggested (and remember we're talking about 8 and 9 year olds),
"You could hear God in the Mass."
"You could hear God in the Readings."
"You could do some meditation."
"It's when someone is kind to you."
Then one child asked how God can hear our prayers when so many people are praying at once,
"There must be a thousand hundred prayers all at the same time. How can God hear them all?"
Another one asked, "Does God get disappointed in us?"
It was such a joy to answer their questions! And I think the Codfish was pretty amazed at the depth of their thinking. He went away laughing to himself about their questions.

And today was a Very Busy Day. I wish I could have just one quiet day...
