Nov. 18th, 2011

Today I drove for two hours exactly, leaving home at half past seven and arriving in Palmerston North at half past nine, for a meeting. As I drove along the water's edge between Pukerua Bay and Paekakariki, the sun was rising over the hills that climb almost vertically from the road, with a narrow cleft of railway line cut in just above the road line. The sea was rough in the morning sun, with white caps and rollers thundering onto the rocks ust metres away on my left, despite the warm sunshine. Fine mist rose ahead of me, catching those morning rays and giving the coast ahead a misty, ethereal quality. It made the journey worthwhile.
I found this pic of the road

It was a good day. I'm going to bed now to ...READ A BOOK! I am going to quit NaNoWriMo, the people I met with were ...very ... unusual. I guess I was too old for them? Or too normal? All these youngish people were sitting round a table in a coffee house when I joined them. No one spoke to me. And I didn't konw what to say. They all knew each other already. I sat and watched them and sipped a coffee. I just kept watching. One pulled out playdoh for people to play with when they saw fit, and then another pulled out a real typewriter and began clacking away. Seriously reeked of 'I'm so quirky I use this' stuff. I would have talked about books, about writing, about plot, about characters, challenges, anything, but that didn't seem to be happening. I got up and left! Fast! I hope they do well. I will not. And I'm pleased. It was not my scene!

That road is gorgeous!

The Nanowrimo group sound dire. Maybe they all knew each other from before and hadn't expected a 'stranger'? And the pretentious quirkiness - words fail me!! But you needn't quit - there are loads of friendly writers online. I'm not one of them - I mean I'm friendly and I'm a writer but I'm not doing Nanowrimo - I don't work well under pressure. I know a few people who are writers of both fanfic and original fic - and I mean really know them, as in 'real life' so I can vouch for them - if you want to dip your toes into a virtual setting.

OMG perfect icon!!!

Yeah, youth, I guess! And thanks for the writer offers! But I think November is a bad month for me, too much end of year pressure to get things done, planned, prepared, assessed, prize winners, junior activities, you know how it can be.

I would prefer a Janorimo. Maybe I'll have my own *g* I'm not really a very good 'social' writer!

I agree about the 'social' writing - I like discussion with other writers before and after, but 'during' the process any chat is too distracting.

I can see that November is a bad month for your whole continent!! You could have a Janowrimmo privately and keep a brief diary and then post it in February...

That other icon and this one were made for me by one of my f'list. She posted these witty sand I said they would make good icons and she made these for me the next day! Sadly, she's one of those people I've 'grown apart' from - not much in common other than some shared fandoms and we haven't commented on each other's posts for a couple of years. In fact, I even filter hers out of my f'list along with a few others when I'm in a hurry.

I still miss 'lost friends' out there now and then. Which irritates me! I wish I could forget them!

I think I'd have to write AND post in January. February is too busy again!!! Our year is so upside down!

Well, if you and some others on my f'list must live on the wrong side of the world! Standing upside down all the time must addle your brains and your schedules... (And I'm sorry but I only have Australia icons...)

It must be beautiful driving along that road! The group of writers sound weird! It's a pity you had to drive so far for so little benefit. I've never considered doing the NaNoWriMo, I write far too slowly and would not be able to keep up with it all. It seems to work for some people though.

I feel like I maybe could have done Nanowrimo if it were at a different time of the year. But I'll just keep pottering along, I guess! As we all do!

The road is beautiful, but looks a little intimidating to drive on!

I'm not a fan of being quirky just to be quirky. Why can't people just be themselves?

No, it's really a very tame road. It's our #1 highway, believe it or not!! We don't have straightforward highways!

Yeah. I guess it's fun to be fun and different, but seriously, an old typewriter? It's just disturbing the peace! And you can't fix errors LOL!
