The Last Supper

*sigh* first leg of the Easter journey is over, the Mass celebrating the Last Supper, and the stripping of the altar and we have left the church in bareness and darkness, in silence. It's quite cool, a meaningful kind of preparation for the death on the cross tomorrow.

I'm going to do some writing tonight, which should be good. I created this whole new scene for Breathing Space, and then driving back from the Hutt this afternoon (I dropped Christy out to some friends) I redesigned the whole scene and now I have to retype it! But that's really fun for me, so I can't complain.

I have to admit I can still be a screechy fangirl whenever one of my favourite authors writes back to me *g* so yeah, I can admit it, I love Nick *g* and I hope he doesn't fall off the mountain over Easter.

A friend replied to my phone message this evening while I was out, and that confirms another leg of the Road Trip. Rotorua, here we come. It's a fascinating town, often reeking of sulphur and thermal activity, packed with Maori people, history, the most extraordinary lakes and bush, and some good activities for tourists as well. So we'll go:
(north) Wellington to Hurleyville in South Taranaki (visit my friend on the farm, the school has 20 children)
(south) Wanganui to sleep
(north east) Inland to Raetihi and the back of Mt Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro to Taumaranui (can't quite get them to confirm our accommodation there!)to sleep
(north) on to Upper Atiamuri (and here I was tempted to go up to Putaruru and over the Kaimais)
But no, we'll go north east across to Rotorua - see our friends there-
then the back way north west to Tauranga via Oropi - they've finally sealed that whole road now.
Should be fun, and we'll leave Tuesday, arrive late on Thursday. I ought to be able to update from the big T. You'll hardly know I've gone. And Viv will be away splurkenzeedeutsch...

And what did we have for dinner on this Last Supper night? Did we have a meaningful Passover Pesach meal with lamb chops and bitter herbs and unleavened bread? No, we were shallow and had pizza...

Your trip sounds fantastic. You have to write it up in detail. With pics!

I will. It might bore you stupid but you're going to get it anyway! There might be a lot of photos of the bush. Hopefully some mountains too. Rivers. Ferns. That sort of thing *g*

We've booked Barcelona - 22nd April - 10th May. So then you all get spammed with Gaudi architecture!

Likewise - big or small, too! Places are fascinating! And I shall expect pictures of Schwangau even though I have some because I haven't any on the computer.

Ooh, wow, that's going to be great. And I know nothing, zilch, zip, nada, about Gaudi architecture, so it'll be a learning curve.
Steve brought home his itinerary for Lyon. *sigh*

And ooooh, yet ANOTHER animated icon. I don't even know how to do that! The moving ones I used to have were all gifts!

I was so proud of having an LJ called Takahe.

I'll have to get to work on a new Takahe icon...

The trip sounds wonderful! I bet you'll have a great time.

My church is having a potluck dinner tonight, with samplings of traditional Seder dishes.

I will be having leftovers out of the fridge, seeing as how I have to work tonight.

Thanks. Because of the recent lahar and the floods up north, I will be driving the 4WD and not going too fast! More time to view the scenery. Pity Steve isn't going, so I could make him drive while I took pics. We'll just have to make a lot of stops!

Aw, I hope there was something nice for you to eat.

I had some beef stew out of the fridge. It was good.

When I got to the church, they were cleaning up. They offered me some parsley soaked in saltwater, but I declined.

We've just had our Maundy Thursday Service, we don't do the stripping the church thing here, (we did in Wellington...) but to be fair this church is very bare most of the time so you probably wouldn't notice the difference!!!

I don't think our roast chicken really cuts it as a Passover celebration meal either!!

The new church at St Josephs, by the Basin Reserve is like that. It's almost like something from Jesus' time, it's all bare stone and wood ...but the whole building is designed in a koru shape!

Well, hee, it sounds a bit better than pizza...

it's all bare stone and wood ... yes that's St Andrew's, not a koru though! - very old stone and wood in our case... some of the stone goes back to Saxon times...

Well, hee, it sounds a bit better than pizza... yeah but I think a Passover Chicken sounds a bit odd!!..behold the Chicken of God!!! noooo!!

*giggle* hee! Well, I've always maintained we're lucky Jesus didn't hold up the passover lamb chop instead of the bread and say, This is my body. Imagine it, refrigerated tabernacles...

Yes Jesus obviously thought ahead, having lamb organised for mass/communion would be a lot more trouble than bread I mean you can't just pop out to the bakery for roast lamb!!! - would you have a spit at the front of church or would there be a roster for cooking the lamb ready for the service each week? *g*

Yeah, and they'd need little buckets for the bones, and serviettes, and what about the bits of fat - would people hide them under the kneelers?! And what about vegetarians, and vegans, and OMG it's just so funny to imagine!
