No breathing space...

And so the holidays roll along. The weather actually cleared this afternoon and the washing dried. Well, the washing on the line dried. There is now more on the line and more in the machine! OMG!

And the males in the household all had tantrums this evening, one at an appliance and the other two at each other! I'm so weary of trying to keep the peace between everyone. I spent most of the day rearranging stuff in rooms, and throwing out junk and sorting toys. Asher helped me move the heavy furniture, then the boys played with their friends, Christy went babysitting and I tried to do more tidying. I didn't get to write *pout* - what happened to the notion of long afternoons writing? It never happens while the family is so busy and demanding, and it's kind of disappointing, like there will never be time again. I might have to put my foot down LOL!

I had a glass of wine with some friends this evening when I went to collect the boys, and they forced a cocktail dress on me LOL! My friend's daughter is having a cocktail 21st birthday and I never wear and don't own anything even close to that! So they armed Christy with some things for me to try on! OMG! Watch this space. It's not until August! A little black dress!!!

And I received mail from moth today but Christy won't let me open it yet *g* so thanks, Liz, in advance! I guess you're off to the south of France by now. Eh bien...

Tonight I. Shall. Write. ...no matter what. End of story.

Put your foot down hard! People only demand what they think (from experience) they might get. And you're demanding things of yourself, too!! Let them argue and let them live in a mess!! The washing, I'm afraid, is another matter, but you don't have to sit and watch it dry.

Hope the little black dress is a success!

I shall go offline tomorrow but I hope you have a lovely birthday. LJ reminded me this morning - which would be a bit late for posting to NZ!! Glad it arrived! And Christy is quite right!

Heh, she often is.

Okay, I'll try. I'm not so good at that, but I'll try. Thanks for your support. I'm much better with backup *g*

I'm glad that your weather has improved a bit, I wish ours would follow suit...

There will be time to write, there must be, though you might have to make it happen!!! This is your holiday too, you too have the right to do things you enjoy, the mess in the house is everybody's responsibility not just yours, so is keeping the peace... if you take all the responsibilities they will crush you... book yourself a couple of mornings or afternoons to write, put them in the diary/calendar/plan, make them a commitment, you wouldn't cancel friends coming round just because the bedroom needed tidying, nor would you refuse to take Christy to clarinet or the boys to soccer because the washing is waiting... don't cancel your writing time either, you deserve time to relax and enjoy yourself as much as anyone!
You are working so hard, both at school and at home, you need the holidays to be a time to rest as well as a time to catch up with things, so look after yourself, please!!!

Oh, thanks, Viv, you have such good advice *sigh* It all makes sense when you and Moth say it.
-you deserve time to relax and enjoy yourself as much as anyone!
Thanks. And you're right, I really need to book in some time for myself and not lose it all on housework and managing the rest of the family. Steve has all the guys round tonight so that should give me some time to get my laptop out, huh! And maybe I'll just book Christy to take the boys out to the movies or something later in the week! If they go on the bus, they'll be gone for ages *g*

Sounds like the family aren't going to say, hey Mum, take some time out to write so that leaves.... oh, yes, YOU to sort it. TAKE it. Mess can wait. Or they can clean up after themselves.

But the boys were playing. Christy was babysitting. Who was pressuring you to tidy? Yourself? As Moth and Vivh said... take time out. Keep yourself sane.

Good question. I think it's mostly the pressure of being a mother. And you need to see the state of our spare room, it's dreadful now that Asher and I took out the couch and television! And the boys needed to get back into their room to be able to sleep! And all Steve's friends were coming round that night to watch a French movie. Although at least Steve did all the dishes!

I'll get there. Thanks. Sanity is certainly important. Right now, at 10.20am Christy has gone to another babysitting job, the boys are playing nicely, the tennis rerun is on and I have my laptop open *g* Sanity, here I come...

And may I ask who's your icon?

And may I ask who's your icon?
One of the guys from Battlestar Galactica, sometimes referred to as the West Wing in space. I am talking the new series not the 1970s thing. One day I shall modernise my icons and get some 'appropriate' ones but as I have been saying that for a long time....

I don't like the one above anymore but it is a photo I took of a tiny icicle on a little burn up in north west Scotland. I took it lying on my stomach on the frozen earth.

The icicle was always good, like a frozen waterfall!

I have heaps of great icons I didn't carry over to Nate's Mountain. I got used to using them for various expressions and I don't really have anything much like that anymore. My fannish ones are more writers these days, too.

I never saw Battlestar G. old or new. But a West Wing in space sounds interesting *g*

look out for it. It was the first bit of Tv that I could really get into after the West Wing. My brother introduced it to me when I was down visiting. I thought he's gone nuts when he said he wanted to watch it, that Tuesday nights 9pm was sacred territory... Battlestar Galactica???? Then I watched....

Went home and downloaded the whole series to that point which was most of season one. It has got politics, relationships, ethics, conflict, uncertainty, decision making, racism, suspense, intelligence. You name it, you got it. Look out for it. You could have great debates in your Ethics classes.

Heh, I've had to put a mock ban on Grey's Anatomy for the whole ethics class LOL! I have one student who can just about quote entire episodes! And half the class has seen it and they go, 'Yeah, yeah, that one!'

But BG does sound interesting. Thanks!

And please, please don't mind but I won't comment on your LJ much. Too many people there whose worlds collided with mine in the past and I shan't ever get over any of them! So I'll keep my distance most days, but I'm still reading.

We just chatted about all these things the other day ! Time for you is important. Also, the children are waaaay old enough to be constructive and seriously helpful in the house besides needing to be chauffered around.
Have you got one of those lovely signs for the back of your car,I have seen them here " Mum's Taxi Service" .....I would get you one but they are in German !

You're right, but for all my fantabulous intelligence, I'm a slow learner?! And the children are helpful in so many ways, but terribly bad at tidying up LOL!

Heh! Nice idea! Friends at soccer have a car numberplate that says PECKED and when you get close it reads 'Raising children is like being PECKED to death by a duck'!!

Those darn men. Why can't they behave themselves and give you a little writing time?

Hehe...you have to wear a dress. I hate it when they force me into a dress! I do expect pictures though!

Good luck with the writing!
