Resolutions...

I looked at the most popular New Year's Resolutions. They were pretty boring. I'll have to work on mine. I don't think I can change my ability to fuck people off, or be devastated by other people's behaviours that shouldn't concern me. I don't think I can think about things that go on any less, and I will never be able to stop caring about all manner of things. I don't think I can stop being secretly afraid of one day driving into the sea or a river (and that doesn't stop me driving by the sea every day!). I will never ever tolerate bananas. So I'll think of what I can work on. One thing will be doing tasks WHEN they arrive, not saying, 'hey, I'm busy, I'll do that one later' as is the norm for me. I want to get EVERYTHING done next year when it needs doing. I know that is kind of wishful thinking but I suspect I am a master of procrastination. I'm not sure what else. I have no bad drugs or cigarettes to give up. I could definitely drink less coffee (and don't go telling me that's a drug, honestly). I would like to take every conversation more slowly so I don't regret what I said later, in all kinds of situations. I would like to be really well prepared for every lesson I teach, not like the haste with which I had to throw together a lot of this year's lessons as The Reliever. Now that the job is really mine for as long as I like, I want to make it a brilliant one. I have so many ideas, I just have to work out how to put them all into practice. I would like to learn more, see more, reflect positively more often. On a more mundane note, I'd like to make sure the dishes are done every night before we go to bed, no matter what. And be more patient with the family and help them to be more patient with one another. Find some zen, channel some karma, light some freaking candles if that helps. And pray more. That sure might help. It's a very positive, soothing thing, to pray, even briefly. And I'm not a holy roller or a fundamentalist pious prat or an evangelist or a hand waving charismatic. But I do believe God is watching us (heh, remember that song too?!) ...from a distance the world looks blue and green...
from Bette Midler - I'll go find it. It is pretty good. Mind you, I feel God is closer some days...
-From a distance the world looks blue and green,
and the snow-capped mountains white.
From a distance the ocean meets the stream,
and the eagle takes to flight.

From a distance, there is harmony,
and it echoes through the land.
It's the voice of hope, it's the voice of peace,
it's the voice of every man.

From a distance we all have enough,
and no one is in need.
And there are no guns, no bombs, and no disease,
no hungry mouths to feed.

From a distance we are instruments
marching in a common band.
Playing songs of hope, playing songs of peace.
They're the songs of every man.
God is watching us. God is watching us.
God is watching us from a distance.

From a distance you look like my friend,
even though we are at war.
From a distance I just cannot comprehend
what all this fighting is for.

From a distance there is harmony,
and it echoes through the land.
And it's the hope of hopes, it's the love of loves,
it's the heart of every man.

It's the hope of hopes, it's the love of loves.
This is the song of every man.
And God is watching us, God is watching us,
God is watching us from a distance.
Oh, God is watching us, God is watching.
God is watching us from a distance.

-Oh, you'll definitely be top of the list.
Whee! I'm glad Santa was generous this year, you deserve it.

And I love it that when we talk I can dust off my 'one' WaT icon!
