Pipi and tuangi...

We have been to the beach. Our friends are staying at their family bach in Waikanae (an hour's drive from here) and they invited us out for the day. We left here at noon, after I'd done some painting in Christy's bedroom. I made blueberry muffins to take with us, and they loved those. We had lunch together outside in the hot sun, then later we walked one block to the beach, where everyone had a swim and a good game of beach soccer. Evening fell and we had a barbecue, including eating the pipi and tuangi (cockles) the boys dug up just a few metres from shore. They were still a bit sandy inside but we all enjoyed them, fresh, barbecued in their shells and tasting of the sea - there's a reference here if you've never heard of them

We have arrived home late and tired but I have to get the powerpoint ready for Mass tomorrow, I guess... maybe I can whip it out in the morning? I'll get it started, anyway. I seem to have a sore knee. Maybe if I sit in bed and do it, things might get halfway done.

It's Christy's sixteenth birthday in the morning and she is away. That feels strange. She promised to turn on her phone tomorrow so we can all text her birthday messages! I hope she is having a good time with 35,000 other young people!

So. I hope you're all well. I'll be off now, to think of good songs to sing in the morning - oops, it's 12:01 now. Songs to sing today. Later today *g*

We lived near the sea when I was small, and a friend's big brother used to take her, and me, to the beach to find cockles and winkles. He'd light a fire and take a milk can (we used to get milk in cans like miniature churns straight from the farm) and we'd boil the shellfish in sea water and then eat them from the shells with a pin. Your 'adventure' brought the memories back!
