Safe and sound...

It's hot here this evening. I just collected Christy from Lower Hutt, back from Parachute where she spent a lot of time not sleeping along with most of the 35,000 other people there! She's just having her first hot shower in five days! She had a great time though.

I painted most of her room and it looks very cool. Rather sophisticated. I miss the vibrant purple though *g* My hands are covered in paint.

I have to concentrate on schoolwork now, I have to go into school tomorrow and look like I know what I am doing. I'll try to meet up with the teachers in my department and check what they are up to. Find out which students are returning, which ones are not. It will put a lid on my writing for a few days until I get everything up and running. Still, I have finished re-editing Safe. That feels good. It feels okay. I could almost be proud of it. I might send the edited copy to a friend who is reading it at the moment. He knows a lot about books and is a writer himself, so it might be alarming but good practice to have his feedback!! I guess I will get five Saturdays devoted to writing anyway, when I start my 'night school' class mid-February. You meet once a month and it should be a lot of fun. I hope there isn't anyone I already know though, because Wellington is a SMALL place!

So. To schoolwork. And sewing name tags on Finn's clothes for Hogwarts, I guess.

I'll leave you with some very wise words from Phil Gulley today,
-It is a good thing to have some core beliefs around which our lives are built. We get to a hard place, a confusing junction, and we can say, “Well, here’s what’s important to me,” and choose a path consistent with our beliefs. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred that works. But there’ll come a day when we have to choose between two competing claims, and on that day, Jesus teaches us that taking care of the hurting person in front of us takes precedence over the rule book. Because, in the end, what really defines us isn’t so much what we believe, but whether and how we love.

Nice icon *g*

I keep remembering your little group then I forget where it is. So I never get there. Yikes.
Yeah, I hope the class isn't full of people writing children's fiction, there is so much of that around here. And I think there was a separate course for that - *shudder* it's not my scene right now. Maybe soon. I'm thinking a little about teen fic, but not too seriously. It's just because I spend so much time with the darned things (teenagers!).
I do hope they run things in a sensible fashion, with, as you say, constructive criticism. I think, if it was badly done, the course wouldn't be repeating. I did notice it last year but I was about half a year too late!

You won't find it - it's locked from all search engines to protect our work from 'publication' whilst in progress. When you're ready, we can issue an 'invitation' which will let you in.Meanwhile, enjoy the class, and consider our Yahoo group gayflashfic which is run by Alex and gives weekly prompts. The core group are fairly active and give lots of helpful advice and comments. I've learnt an enormous amount from them and had fun in the process. The 'gay' bit just means writing has to be GLBT friendly - no homophobes allowed! And although some of the writing is both gay and erotic there are other contributions that are about cats or kids or sci fi!

Another writing icon - a friend made them for me after she'd made the comments in them on her LJ!

Breathing Space isn't gay fic at this stage. But the group does sound like fun...

Stories about cats?! Yikes!
