Well, isn't that a creepy LJ topper... I dislike Halloween. It really means nothing in NZ and there's just one house along the road that's now well known for being 'in the spirit' of it all. The rest of us just look on with faint amusement (children adore it - the garden is full of vampires, skeletons, hags, spider webs, a ghoul vomiting in a bucket - now that's rather successful, gravestones with dead people crawling out... you name it, it's in their little front garden!).

Today was busy as usual, a run of four senior classes back to back this morning. My Year 13s are studying the Parable of the Good Samaritan, and we watched Hotel Rwanda to ponder on the incredible kindness of that hotel manager, Paul R. What was amazing to me, and to the girls, was that we watched it all on tv, when those students would have been about three years old. We saw the hundreds of bodies lined along ditches and roadsides, in streets and burnt out buildings. We watched it and we cried and we didn't know what on earth to do. And who is my neighbour, I asked the girls in the best Biblical fashion. Sina, a beautiful, gentle Year 13, looked up, "Everyone."

And a pic from the little lake by the skate park near my mother's house
Photobucket pukeko, not takahe...

and here's an indication that it's going to be a good summer

I think that's an excellent plan - much easoer to fit in with your work than trying to write sections of a novel in term-time. And don't forget you could join our gff group - we just write for each other's entertainment and have weekly prompts, though you don't need to write every week.

I think joining any group is a sure-fire disaster for me at the moment. But come December... *shrug* just getting through a working day is a mighty mission just now. Thanks for the encouragement though, it's friends like you who keep me going with pen in hand!
