I went to school for the final visit of 2008 today (well, perhaps apart from sending a fax to someone on Monday). It feels good now, I've done all the urgent jobs and can sit back and start planning for a really successful year for me and my department in 2009. I even got my timetable today. Looks okay, mostly seniors, four at years 12 and 13 but I have one junior class. We are introducing Achievement Standards this coming year which gives our subject a lot more teeth. We were only able to offer Unit Standards before, which you either pass or fail and are quite narrow in the marking. Achievement Standards have three levels of pass, Achieved, Merit or Excellence and are generally broader in the tasks set for assessment and in the marking expectations. And the girls like them, because if a student gets 50 credits in Merit or Excellence, it is endorsed on their NCEA certificates. So yay for Religious Studies after all...

We also did some cleaning up today and tried to restore order. It's interesting, put a Santa hat on Finn and out comes all the inappropriate behaviour. It's very funny but I guess I can't describe it here like I used to. Natesmountain probably lacks the edge I had occasionally when I was Takahe. Also, you are very nice people. I don't even rant here on the whole. Which may just be an indication that things are more even, except they're not. I guess I just don't share like I used to. I guess I learned my lesson *snort*

And it's Friday night with no work worries hanging over me. We might go for a walk then I can sit back and try to write a few Christmas cards! With the usual family photo - which we took at reasonable risk to our sanities this afternoon! I'll share it closer to Christmas *g*

Oh that's so awful. I do feel for you.
Hang on, I'll share a pic to cheer you up one fraction - Christy has been devoted to promoting the existence of our Monarch butterflies, making me buy heaps of swan plants because that's all they eat. And we had a bunch of caterpillars in a special box Steve built her under her window and they made chrysalises and tonight four hatched at once. Here is a pic of some of them,
and a pic of one (it was really windy so I had to hurry to catch it)
