Gracious and kind and visionary...

OMGOMG three days to go three days to go and then it's Easter and the first term is over and I have two weeks of holiday and OMG it's nearly here, and three classes are doing assessments so I don't have to plan lessons and a student is teaching another class and we have three days to go!

Then I am going to WRITE come hell or high water.

I just read this wonderful sermon by Phil Gulley http://www.philipgulley.org/Secure%20Sermons/Palm%20Sunday%202009.pdf
that said he was thinking of abandoning organised religion then he met some people struggling in Detroit and they were working to support one another and he felt there is still so much good going on in the world that he might rethink. He asks us are we going to choose to be mean and nasty and small-minded or gracious and kind and visionary. I like the sound of the latter. And I think sometimes it takes an effort to maintain that graciousness and kindness. It's so tempting to be mean, or judgemental, or intolerant, or impatient. It's harder sometimes to just be NICE! I called a meeting tonight for parents who want their children to receive three sacraments in our programme. I told them any of them could take the programme, and I'd help only if they wanted me to. They immediately voted for me to help *snort* I don't get it, any of them could do this. One of the dads came up afterwards to shake my hand because he liked what I do - he's kind of shy - I gave him a hug *g* But it was kind of me to get involved and start the programme off for the year, I guess. And it actually doesn't hurt to be kind. And I get to meet another amazing whack of keen children!

The Codfish came to the meeting. I think he's realising I'm not as dumb as he hoped. He was nodding the whole time I was talking to the parents. Heh, I'll show him. I have plenty of brains left up my sleeve yet.

Tomorrow we're taking our donated Easter eggs on the road. We're giving an egg to every child at the nearby poor Catholic primary school in Newtown, 178 kids and barely a pakeha in sight. Then we'll take some up to Wards 18 and 19 at the hospital (children's wards) and drop some in at the Hospice or St Vincent de Paul for the needy. Should be a fun drive. Me and some Year 13s.
I really shouldn't complain about my life, I'm so lucky, huh. And next week, I shall take up the pen and ...write.

Taken literally, that's a very disturbing image :)

Good luck with the egg-delivering - it's a great thing you're doing.

We had a great time, we went from the poor school to the Cancer Family house to the Children's ward at the hospital to the charity based Hospice. Two car loads of girls, bags of eggs and chocolate rabbits and a lot of smiles!

HI! I got back from answering the front door (damn soccer guy dropping off all the balls and cones and stuff) and you'd called my name but by the time I answered you'd gone. Sorry. And yes, I have magic sleeves. I can pull whole lessons out of my sleeve ;-) and occasionally a meal or two!

I wish you a really happy Easter over there. I hope it's getting warmer. Definitely getting cooler here.
