When a child is born...

Today at Mass I ran the music for a change (due to absence, illness, whatever) and had everyone singing what I wanted (within liturgical reason, of course!). But at the end, for the recessional (or runner as we call it!) we played 'When a Child is Born'. It's a lovely gentle Christmasy song, apparently not to be sung at Mass because it's 'not a real hymn'. Last Christmas we had this fundamentalist organist who refused to play it.

Well, you know what I think of people telling me what to do or not do...
so we sang it. Our usher, who loves the song, popped his head around the doorway to give me a special smile in thanks. And people sang up really well. So I don't care if it's not a hymn, the sentiments are just lovely. And I love playing this song on the keyboard. (Becky won't want to be singing this just now *g* more Christmas cheer!!!)
A ray of hope flickers in the sky,
A tiny star lights up way up high,
All across the land dawns a brand new morn -
This comes to pass when a child is born.

A silent wish sails the seven seas,
The winds of change whisper in the trees
And the walls of doubt crumble tossed and torn -
This comes to pass, when a child is born.

A rosy hue settles all around,
You get the feel you're on solid ground,
For a spell or two no one seems forlorn -
This comes to pass when a child is born.

It's all a dream, an illusion now.
It must come true sometime soon somehow.
All across the land dawns a brand new morn -
This comes to pass when a child is born.
