Jun. 8th, 2010

I think LJ is on the wane. I have almost no friends who post here any more.  I hope they didn't go to Facebook.
And on that note I shall continue.

I had a funeral to go to today, for my friend Susan's dad. He was a very committed economist for the government, head of the PM's department, secretary of the Treasury. And a nice dad. Burying him today felt like losing a little bit of my friend. I was glad I stayed. The rosary was nice last night. I sat with two old friends from college. I sat with one of them again at the funeral today (Rose said, didn't you use to draw that Saint figure on things? - heh, see my icon) but I was the only friend of any of them who carried on to the cemetery. It was FREEZING out there at Makara. I had to hold onto an 88 year old nun to keep her from tumbling down the slippery slope into the grave itself. It was so wet, windy and cold that it became comical and we all finally staggered off to my friend's brother's house for a hot drink.
It was good to be out of school. I really enjoyed it. I set all my classes, taught the first two then gapped it for the day.

And now it's late and it's hailing again. A real wintry cold has set in and I'm glad we finally bought some heaters! And I have a pretty easy day tomorrow so I might get some paperwork done... famous last words, something always seems to go wrong! Someone always needs help with something just at that time! I shall have to hide in my classroom.

It's funny, the teacher who is reading Safe is getting there. This morning she said she thinks she knows who the hacker is but I wasn't to tell her if she was right. She was. I didn't mean to write something of a mystery, but it kind of developed like that. I wonder if I ought to go back and make it more mysterious, you know, with alternatives or twists, but it was never that kind of story. It just kind of happened. ANd I promised I wouldn't edit it any more.

So if any of you are still out there, hello.
I am going to bed now. Good night.

I am here and good night Jen, stay warm :0)

And I love that you're still there, dear John! I hope things are thawing in your corner of the world. It's sure getting chilly here!

Thawing? It was 90 degrees F. and ghastly humid this week. I was pouring sweat.

Humid? OMG I can't imagine it right now. We have just bought skinny little wall heaters for three rooms in an attempt to cope with this winter that has come early. It hailed really heavily last night, so thick I could skate across the deck on the hailstones! How funny the world is, huh. I wish you coolness.

To be honest, I scarcely post anywhere any more.

And that is indeed a shame. I hope you're well and things are good over there.

I'm not too keen on Facebook either ... but my kids wanted me to go on, so they could keep in touch ... so they said. But I never do anything there anyway!

We're getting cold and wet weather too, but nowhere near as bad as yours. Stay warm and dry:)

Facebook is just so public, uses your real name, is accessible to everyone, is easy to look around, I just don't like it! It's all a plot by *cough cough* some investigating body!

Thanks. I can't believe it. The newspaper pasted a series of weather report boxes to reflect what we've been through, it looked like rain rain rain rain rain showers rain for the last about 17 days!!!

I'm here - and I keep meaning to post but I'm not sure what happens or doesn't happen...

I hate Facebook too. I started an account and instantly got pounced on by someone I really dislike and would hate to inflict on my friends so I cancelled the account and then tiptoed back in with a pen name but nobody knows me, which is just as well because I never post there anyway...

I think of Safe as a mystery story and I think it has enough twists and red herrings etc. already. I think that's how it should be marketed. I'm sure your friend will enjoy it.

We are heading for summer, via thunder storms and heavy rain, which conspire to keep our two-year-old caged in the house and far too full of energy.

Exactly! It's so open to people coming to find you.

I'm glad you think of Safe like that. I must admit, to me it became a kind of love story even though I really dislike romance novels - it's not a romance!!! Mostly to me it's a story about overcoming difficulties.

I hope you can find things for Jamie to do in the house then! We had a fixed train track that Steve routed into the back of an old door for the Thomas engines. That kept Finn busy for hours, over a period of years! We even had a turntable and some tunnels and things. I got to paint it! (we had a Tomy track but every time two tracks separated he would have a fit and rip up the whole track! So we settled on a fixed one, out on the deck under cover. "Finn, go play with the trains." "Okay!" and off he'd go. For looooong periods of time!

It's hard to occupy him with anything for long periods yet - I hope that changes soon!! And of course he need a lot of supervision still, for safety! He's getting better!! It helps that he goes to a toddler group twice a week now, but they're on holiday last week and this. We're meeting some friends at a baby gym tomorrow!! Can't wait!!

Baby gym sounds like a great idea. I took Asher to that when he was little but I had Finn as a crawling baby by then and they had no facility for babies. I used to put him in the bottom layer of a vault while I ran around with Asher!

He adored the gym - spent a solid two and a half hours on the trampolines/trampoline-style walks. We went with friends - another Jenny, her daughter and grandchildren who were 3 and 1. The baby scooted around on his bottom all over the place - doesn't walk yet.

Unfortunately it's a 45 minute drive so it isn't going to be a daily or even weekly event but it will be repeated!!

I am still here as you have seen !

I see you have a lot of people in your FB....I try to keep mine to family and people I know from Miniatures groups. I have turned away several strangers.

I refuse to join any of the games on FB (farm, fishtank etc etc )as they are time consuming, addictive and I have been told, they expose your personal details even more.

Almost all of my friends on Facebook are girls from college!!! Although I never ask them to be friends on FB they all ask to be friends with me! We don't have a school policy about that yet, so I just have to keep FB very neutral as I am their teacher! It's so accessible by the public! Teachers have lost their jobs over FB stuff! It's odd because I can see what the girls are up to, and I often don't approve but I never say much about it! OMG! Teenage girls, why on earth would they want their teacher - and a religion teacher at that - knowing what they get up to!!!
