We made it to the mountain after a good drive up the country, got up early to get a good park on the mountain, waited to see if they'd actually open any of the slopes (they only opened the kiddy slope) finally hired our gear, everyone looked great, but the wind got stronger and stronger and in the end they closed even the kiddy slope - it was a howling gale, you could hardly stand up - and we had to come back to the town... well, village. At least they gave us a refund because we'd been there less than one hour. However, the boys did get half a lesson and felt really good about it so it wasn't a complete waste of time. Now what will we do... it looks like bad weather again tomorrow *sniff*

Ah well, we're here so we need to go find something to do. See you later. My laptop won't pick up the Motel internet, I'm using Christy's. So I might talk to you ...later.

Sounds like fun... not!! Well, I'm sure it is fun, as it's a holiday, but here's hoping you get better weather conditions for the rest of your stay!

Yeah, it didn't feel like a good birthday present, being pretty much blown off the mountain! And both sides of the mountain were closed the next day. But we had a brilliant day today so instead of going home we went uphill and that has made up for all of it! I'll post some pics soon.

Sounds cold up there! Hope you have a good holiday despite not getting on the slopes:)

There were high winds here yesterday. We even started worrying in case they close passenger shipping through the Bay of Biscay which they sometimes do. But it seems to have died down today. I shall think of you looking for something to do in the snow while we're off from sunny Britain to even sunnier Spain and Portugal tomorrow!

I guess you've gone now! thanks for the birthday greetings again that was kind of you.

And the mountain on the Whakapapa side was really sunny today. I sat out in the snow all day and never felt cold! I hope Portugal is more stable in its warmth though!!! The snow was falling as we left and it rained all the way home (5 hours' drive)!

Just back! Next time, we should have internet, as the phone is finally fixed.

Have skimmed your journal entries as far back as LJ would let me (about two weeks) and am not sure if you are back at school yet. Enjoy anything that remains of your holiday and all the best for the new term.

I saw your query about books for school libraries - I was also allowed to read almost anything by my parents but I think it's different having adult/near-adult fiction in a library for youngsters who might not have parents willing/able to discuss what they read. I like the idea of a 'senior library'.

Hoping the weather improves for you and you all get some time on the slopes!

We did! We gave up on Turoa (which was still pretty much closed for the three days) and went to Whakapapa today instead of coming home and it was brilliant. Now we are home. I'll post some pics later.
