Queen's Birthday weekend

We're in the middle of a long weekend. I needed something from school this afternoon so I jumped on my trusty black bicycle and zipped along the streets to school. It took about fifteen minutes, so if I wanted to ride there in the mornings, I guess I could leave about quarter to eight and make good time! That was by riding under the airport. On the way back I decided to go by the sea. It's reasonably calm and a grey day. And it was magnificent, streaming along beside the sea, water lapping at the rocks, dusk falling. I couldn't help but think how lucky I am, to be able to do this. Yesterday I visited my friend with MS. She's using a walker to get around now. It's so tough. She wants to keep her mind alert but she can't talk for long, can't hold a pen well, can't sit at a computer for long. She can't do needlework or anything like that because her hands don't do what she tells them with regard to fine motor skills. It's so hard. And it reminds me how lucky I am.
As I got close to home, riding through Miramar, dusk fell upon me like a blanket and I had to stick to the footpaths. My bike has no lights or reflectors. I have no bright green riding gear either! One big block from home and the heavens opened. Suffice to say I got wet *g*
Home again, with a clean kitchen (I sat on the floor and scrubbed the cupboards and floor this afternoon) and a small chance to do some writing and really, how lucky I am. I know there are things ahead, a conference in Palmerston North, another trip to Perth, Finn's exams, Pentecost, First Eucharist, so many things coming up but I'm just going to take a night off tonight and work on Breathing Space. I've changed the angle a bit and now I'm on a roll and I'm not going to stop until it's done, no more restarts or rethinks, it's just going to get done. I have to write an assignment too... I've got three A+ now but I don't know if I can work for a fourth this week!! We'll see. I'm not as academic as blue_leaf ;-) !!
But for now, with all that's going on in my life, a four day weekend has made me feel strangely contented... long may it last!

The cycle ride sounds lovely, but if you did it regularly you'd need to invest in some lights etc. and some wet weather clothing!!

Nice that you're having a productive weekend and still finding time to write. Hope the assignmnet goes well, too.

Brits are very jealous of the 'colonies' haaving days off for the Queen's birthday but evidently next year is going to be a huge celebration - her diamond jubilee - and there's a bank holiday to go with it.

There has to be some benefit for being one of the oppressed colonies LOL! Us antipodeans have to find our fun somehow.

That bike ride sounds great, wish I could still get on a bike! Well, maybe I could if I had one;) We have our Queen's Birthday weekend this week but as I'm on holiday anyway it won't make too much difference to me.

Congratulations on the A+'s, that's great! Keep it up:) Glad you've had time to write too. Enjoy the rest of your long weekend:D

Riding a bike is very ...freeing. I'm never going to be a jogger, I don't have any jogging genes. But biking is just lovely.

Thanks. I've handed in my fourth assignment now. The next one will be MUCH harder. The lecturer is a theologian. They always think they're right!
