Some of our Perth trip under the cut!
So we went to Australia, me, my Principal, and two students. This is the soil north of Perth...

I saw some great plants, Photobucket

This was Perth on one of our first mornings Photobucket

Some Aussie-style pics - we went to a monastic 'town', the only one in Australia, New Norcia.

The little town was very picturesque

Our conference had a strong Aboriginal input, rather the same as we would with Maori welcomes etc. It was good. I love it.
Girls danced first, then boys
Aborigine handing over to Maori
We had the cutest didgeridoo player
That'll do for a start! And now I am officially on holiday. So many of the teachers have been stressed to the max this past fortnight and it's great to be on a break.
The dad of a senior girl passed away unexpectedly while she was away on a geography trip in Samoa, and that has been really sad. We'll have to go to the funeral on Monday, I guess. The guy was younger than me. Yikes! I ran prayers yesterday at the end of the school day and the girls were great, all coming into the gym and sitting really quietly around some candles. There were quite a few tears at the end, I think it just touched girls in ways we don't always expect, maybe because of their own grief about other things as well as the loss of nicole's dad.
I am so happy to be on holiday. So very very happy. It's like an enormous treat! I can breathe again.
Oh I nearly forgot. We had a real live progressive Jewish rabbi visit my Ethics class this week. He was great. Just came from Israel to live here and spoke beautifully with my class about death and l ife after death. It was a very good visit. I had practised with the girls the day before, to check their questioning skills, and I banned about three girls from asking questions without checking with a friend first. Then another girl blows it by asking, 'do NZ Jews get buried facing Mecca?' the whole class went nuts!!! The rabbi handled it well *g* he used to be a high school teacher!

Lovely pics! Thanks! And thanks for sharing the story about your student and the Mecca question *g*

Enjoy your break!!

Thanks! I can't believe I'm on holiday. A fellow teacher and I were saying it felt like the end of the year and we're only halfway through omg! I think our boss has put too much pressure on us this year!
Still, it's time to enjoy some stuff. I think... I might write! I have another free d/l offer at Smashwords for the month and people are racing through. I think I've 'sold' 66 books now LOL! Must be your rave review *g* *hugs Moth*

I am always thrown by your school year - ours runs September to July... Try not to drown in the pressure!!

Glad people are still picking the book up - I must remember to send a review to an online zine (Wilde Oats) I occasionally review for. The GFF zine has folded - too few decent submissions recently to justify the amount of work involved. You should have had an email about it, asking if you want your story transferred to the archives on a new blog site when the website finally closes. But the woman dealing with the transfers doesn't seem very competent so if you don't hear anything let me know how you feel about that. I'm not transferring mine - I'd rather have control of them in case I want to re-submit anywhere some time - but that's just a personal decision and nothing to do with the blog itself.

Love that icon! I don't think I got any emails from the GFF zine...

I wrote a sequel to the story I wrote for that zine. It was good. Then I was halfway through a third one but it died!

You sent me the sequel and it was good. Some day the third part might revive and you would have a short story... I should suggest not transferring your work to the blog so that you don't have to worry if you want to use it in a short story form. It isn't as if many people are going to access the blog archives... Let me know and I will send your decision to the organiser!

I seem to have a lot of cat icons.

And shouldn't you be in bed????

THat's right, I think I sent it when you had that awful flu and you didn't know up from down!!

I never thought of doing a real short story with it all. It could almost turn into a whole book in my head! I loved those guys!

Yeah, I don't wanna go to some other random blog at this stage.

I love all your cat icons. I can see a heap here all at once. I haven't made an icon for ever. An old friend used to make most of mine. I always seemed to have trouble with sizes and stuff!! It'd take me about seven tries to get it to 100x100 and readable!

-And shouldn't you be in bed????
Always... story of my life

A second reply - I have just heard that I have had a review of Safe accepted by Wilde Oats for their August issue - http://www.wildeoats.com/MainPage
You can click on something to get an automatic reminder of when it comes out. The reviews editor is a friend and I told him about the free download window so he got a copy and enjoyed it. Hopefully the review will get you a few more readers!

OMG you're kidding!!!! Someone else actually enjoyed it? Wow! Thanks! Made my day!

A list for you in return - stick it on the wall *g*

I think most people who actually find it will enjoy it...

And I love the list!!
