This is a meme from margaret_r
1. Reply to this post, and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of Icon Squee!

And these are the icons Margaret chose for me:

This one came after some of my LJ friends and I lost what had been a great friendship. In a need to avoid them, I created a new LJ and named it after the mountain where we first meet Nate in The Testament, my fave John Grisham novel. I needed a nice, anonymous icon, non-fandom, to make a clean break as some of these people were either attacking me or bad-mouthing me to my friends, which, if anything, hurt even more. So my new anonymous self was created. I ran away to a mountain to lick my wounds! The pic was from the net somewhere. I guess I could have my own pic now but this one was just right! I adore Nate and I feel like I have a link to him through my LJ. Me and Nate. Sometimes very alone but good company too! I hope...

I have had an LJ friend called Viv and she loves to paint. She painted this amazing paua shell for me so I made it into a paua on grass kind of effect. Viv is really creative. I have a gorgeous card she made me one time. The paua fits in with my love of blue as a colour (Viv knew about the blue fetish!). Once I met Viv for coffee fairly early in the morning and we stayed and had coffee the entire day in one coffee shop! One of the best days ever.

Finn is my youngest child, and is very complex. Here i have painted him as Garfield for one of the school book days when he was little. I loved his expression. Just as I love Garfield. Finn and I both love cats a LOT. I love the look on his face in this one.

This beautiful icon is one I made using some of the woodwork from the marae in our National Museum, Te Papa Tongarewa. I sometimes feel a really close connection with our Maori heritage and I love the modern colours in this internal marae, set up within the museum. I love the patterns.

This final icon really brings back some amazing memories of a friend I had. She made cool icons with good words on them, like this one, when Rob Lowe attended a Collingwood Aussie Rules game. My friend tolerated my belief in God and even made me an icon that was ambiguous and thoughtful. She was, I thought, a most special and generous person, with a wicked sense of humour and a great gritty ability to write. 'A' taught me how to use the internet properly. And taught me how to write fanfic. She wrote some of the grittiest and best Samfics ever. I started by adding to a couple of her stories. Then I wrote my own. Highlights for me included the Buffy The Vampire Episode Titles Sam Seaborn Drabble Challenge (write a 100-word drabble about Sam for every Buffy episode title) and writing a three way EvilSamFic story about Sam, with Elaine and Ann - we'd write a chapter each, challenging the following writer to pick up where you'd left off. Such fun! A t-shirt this friend, A, sent from her family's home in Maine is one of the most fought over items in our house. Kennebunkport... She also introduced me to Framed, and to the gorgeous Paul Gross who features in quite a few of my icons, too!

Wow, that was a trip down memory lane!

I remember the day you spent with Viv. I think that was a good day for all. And I'm so pleased that we all did meet you before we left the Long White Cloud. We will return.

Really interesting to be reminded of all these and their backstories (even though I knew most of it already).

Viv has made lovely art for me, too. She has been incommunicado recently - she doesn't do LJ and I don't do Facebook; that about sums it up. I really must contact her soon, especially as I'm now 'stuck' in England for about four months and therefore more 'available'.

I'm doing the meme too, but have had some glitches uploading pics so it might be a day or two.
