Saturday stuff

Heh, having flushed all the Rolf Harris fans out of the woodwork this morning, I moved on to try painting the kitchen ceiling. That entailed cleaning the ceiling first, and that led to cleaning the tops of the cupboards - ick - that took ages, and then I moved on to clean the wine rack, the range hood, all the greasy things that get grubby up high in a kitchen. I think I recall Liz doing the same thing one time (that's the Liz in Oz). Up and down the ladder, up and down, for another sponge, the Jif, the paper towels - still, it's much, much cleaner up there. And then it was time for dinner. Now I have so much more to do but I'm tired *snort* I'll paint tomorrow afternoon, maybe. I arranged all my baskets on top of the cupboards so they look good, and this time I lined the tops of the cupboards with newspaper, so I can get up there and just change it periodically. I didn't want cupboards to the ceiling with this kitchen, but after a job like that, I can regret it ;)

In other ways it was a good Saturday. A shopping trip to the Warehouse to finish off the children's stationery requirements. Our neighbour rushed over when she heard I'd done some of my painting. She loved the sisal wall, hated the blue windowsill. She's Greek but she hates blue *g* we insist she's denying her heritage! She even got her house painted yellow, thumbing her nose at all the white houses with blue windowsills in the neighbourhood!

Here's my windowsill, anyway - think of Provence perhaps! It's a bit blurry, which is annoying. And it looks dark because it was so sunny outside. Ignore all the stuff out on the porch, it's all lined up for the fair next Saturday...

And tomorrow? We're singing Blest are They at Mass and I love playing that one. Looking forward to it. It has a great tune and wonderful lyrics
Blessed are you, holy are you, Rejoice and be glad, yours is the kingdom of God

Thanks. I could show you the wall I painted in Sisal but it's so - plain! It's my Amish wall *g*

Maybe when I've done the kitchen ceiling LOL!

Lovely! I love glimpses into other people's homes/lives, especially when I know I won't get to see them for real any time soon.
Well it wouldn't be me doing tops of cupboards LOL! My eye problems make stepladders a disaster so C has to go up instead.
Presumably you are doing all the things you never had time for while working, and then you can write with a clear conscience!! Surrounded by lovely colours.

True, I have let things slide a bit around the place. But I said to Steve just before in the spa, 'Will I ever actually get time to write or will I be forever doing housework and stuff?' but he figured if I put aside a set time, don't answer the phone and just write, it'll work *g*

What happened to your eyes?
I was up a big ladder and I kept dropping things or needing something and I was getting tired, so I'd say, 'Finn...' and he was playing Zoo Tycoon, and he'd jump up and get what I wanted but after about an hour, he'd yell, 'WHAT??!??!' and storm over to fetch me my rag or Jif or hand me something!! But at least he still did it.

And speaking of Zoo Tycoon, I stopped to see what he was doing. He had about forty lions in an enclosure and forty tigers in another and he let them all out, and then he dropped an orang utang into the field, and they were all chasing it, and he's sitting there saying, 'run, boy, run' until I made him put a fence around the poor thing! I forgot why we had banned Finn from playing. It was after we found him casually dropping a gazelle into the tiger enclosure, and continually putting Bob the Guest into the shark tank.

The boys used to play Zoo Tycoon and their favourite trick was to let all the lions and tigers go free in a zoo full of visitors and watch the resulting chaos and carnage!! - boys huh!!

Boys indeed. Christy and I would never do that sort of thing *g*

I'm sure Steve's right. If you set aside the same sort of time you used to devote to work ...And you have to do it, otherwise you might as well just get another job!!!

When I had an aneurysm way back in 1977, my right eye was paralysed. Not the sight; the controlling muscles. So if I look up/down/too far sideways or get tired, I see double and sometimes treble. Loss of ability to refocus quickly. I'm used to it but I don't do stepladders!!!

Europe has renamed Jif as Cif and spend thousands persuading us it was the same product.

Fledge thought the bit about her mermaids in Zoo Tycoon getting on with everything really meant just that. Unfortunately, the sharks ate one. My penguin ribbon dance is from her Zoo - they're happy with their conditions (presumably snow and ice) and so is this one - but they're animated and so they're wasted on you!!!!

So true. I know I'll get there, I just have to!

-When I had an aneurysm way back in 1977, my right eye was paralysed. Not the sight; the controlling muscles.
Well, I know what that kind of feels like - I had Bell's palsy about three years ago. I was really lucky, I only have some really slight residual (but odd) sensations around one eye.
Well, you just stay off the stepladders, for sure!

hee! How do you say that? /sif/ or /seef/?!

-her mermaids in Zoo Tycoon getting on with everything really meant just that. Unfortunately, the sharks ate one.
LOL! Those sharks. There are some serious lessons about compatability in Zoo Tycoon!

And yeah *pout* I still can't see any animations.

I think you say it seef but how often does anyone actually say it?

Me! I say, Finn, Finn, find me the Jif. Finn, help, I'm up the ladder and I've dropped the Jif. Finn, come and see what a difference the Jif makes on this gross cupboard top...

*remembers the wonderful days when Fledge was around to help....*

I imagine he'd know what you meant - a rose by any other name, etc!

You're kidding! Really? I guess it was the reading for the day.
But hee, that's really quite funny. Like there's no distance between us in some ways.

I think it was the reading. Our choir songs usually don't match it quite that wel though!

Yeah, I loved the coincidence! It's amazing that we can be on opposite sides of the world, yet very much the same!

Heh, I still get surprised when our friends come in after their Sunday Uniting Church service and they've had the same readings, and they're just up the road! But yeah, a world dividing us isn't so much of a division really. Which is nice. I like to think we're all closer than one might expect, and therefore can care for one another better, with just a little extra effort ;)

Which reminds me, I ought to have gone to the post office and I haven't and ...it's TOMORROW! Know I have had you in my thoughts, disorganised and busy as I might be this week!
