Borat... disgustingly amusing

Tonight we went to a movie premiere, Borat. It was a private showing, hosted by the Video association or something, and Steve was invited because of work. I took a large glass of wine and sat in Gandalf's chair again to watch the movie *g* (the chair funded in donation by Sir Ian McKellern to the Embassy theatre), and they are big, comfortable, leather seats in a classically restored theatre (it was restored for the LoTR). The movie was... questionable to say the least! It was hilariously funny, especially the first half. It was wildly politically incorrect, and sometime incredibly gross. It was challenging and moving and shallow and disgusting all in one package. But it was interesting viewing to say the least. There were a couple of times when I just couldn't look. The woman sitting next to me was even more shocked, and considering it was the first time her husband had taken her to the movies since Phantom of the Opera, I suspect she was more than a little stunned by the whole thing.

Still, it's good to be able to laugh at ourselves. Well, maybe the Americans need to speak up on that one since they are probably being laughed at the most, I dunno! I think - well, the Kazakhstans might have been enraged, as might the Jews, the Iraqis, the gypsies of Europe, but American society across the country could well be enraged as well. Then again, it's just a movie, and probably not worth getting one's knickers in a twist...

I had a crap crap crappy day but it's over now. And I started rewriting Breathing Space during Christy's clarinet lesson. Scary thought but I wanted Nick to have more fun than he was having. So. Mostly just cutting and pasting and deleting the sad and sorry bits. It's actually quite fun. Might do some more tonight in bed. It's raining yet again. I don't hold out much hope for Eastern Zone Athletics in the morning.

I've thought about maybe going to see Borat, but I don't know if I'll make it. Your review makes it sound pretty interesting though!

Yikes! I'm not sure if I ought to recommend it. It was quite gross in parts, and well - maybe I wouldn't want my children to see it LOL! So you... well!!! I'd love to hear what you thought of it though! There is a great bit when he gets 'saved' by Jesus LOL!!!

I think I'll probably end up waiting until it comes out on DVD, unless my friends decide to go to it this weekend, so no worries for a while!

I actually never heard of Borat until I watched SNL the other week.

And what did you think?!! I am wondering what other people would think of it.

With hindsight, it really was quite a silly movie *g*

The movie sounds interesting, perhaps I'll try to see it and see what I make of it. I love the Embassy though, I so enjoyed our trips there, its got such character!

Sorry about your crappy day, and the rain, but at least it's a good reason to do some writing *g*

Yeah, the Embassy is just amazing. And I'd love to see what you thought of the movie, but I'm not sure it's good enough to recommend LOL!

And I did some lovely writing last night, so I felt better before midnight *g*
