Another Wednesday bites the dust. Today I accompanied Asher's and Finn's classes to Capital E for three shows.
It was a very busy day with very short breaks between shows, but a lot of fun. The first guy was amazing, he was an Australian and he'd just made up this new show, called Cycology or something, but it's all about him making music using a bicycle and a recording-amplifying machine. He was phenomenal, creating all sorts of music using parts of the bike and some amplifying equipment, with each sound recorded, added to and played, so he built on sounds to make quite stunning music. He was a brilliant performer, too. The second show was an Indonesian style gamelan orchestra and shadow puppet play with a Kiwi edge to it, and that was loud and exciting and exotic for a lot of the children. The third show was down in Shed 11 on the wharf, a lively dance-drama that was full of energy, a lot of mad running, acrobatics, music, shouting and a message about saving the world. So I think every child must have found something to like in all that. I liked it all.

I'm trying really hard to feel better about all those confusing things, and Viv has been helping *g* and oooh, it helped heaps when I got my joint postcard from vivh and moth1 today! Chinatown in Manchester. Heh. Sounds kind of incongruous, but the main thing was that it was two of my dear friends having lunch together *g* and that's just so neat. Thanks for the post card, in both of your writings!! You're very kind.

Tomorrow I think I'll give the school swimming sports a miss. I'm unavailable for the day. I'm going bush.

Sometimes you go on a school trip dreading it, and end up having such a rewarding experience, huh!

I think you should be unavailable. Take a mental health day.

- Take a mental health day.
Ooh, haven't used that term in ages. Good idea!
I used to work for a Head of Department who said once a term (and we only had three terms back then) he recommended that we each took an unofficial, unscheduled day just for ourselves, a Mental Health Day. He said, go out, go shopping, don't be worried about being seen, and just have a real rest. It was very reassuring to have that kind of support *g* now I have to do it for myself! You remember to take one now and then too, okay? You need it as well.

I think Sunday might be partly a mental health day. I think I'm going to skip church, sleep in, and have a quiet morning. I'm pretty tired of those church people anyway.

It was fun choosing the postcard, too, and talking about the Asian influences in NZ and how Manchester Chinatown might differ from your version. You'd have to ask Viv for the details.
Mental health days sound like a good idea.
