The Art of Sitting

A day of quiet business. I sat for a few hours this afternoon with a friend who'd had an operation on her nasal passages yesterday. One had apparently collapsed (!) - well, I thought they'd just go in there through her nostrils and fix it up but they had to - well - TMI? anyway, aaaaaaaaaah, she was sewn back together like she'd had a nose job! It was a little disconcerting but she could chat away pretty well. I felt a little sore just talking to her though.

There's something in The Testament by John Grisham about Nate, as a harried big city individual, having not learnt the art of just sitting, and he picks it up off the Minister he meets at Josh's holiday home. Yesterday I sat with my friend who has MS, today with my friend with the nose... it's nice to have a little time off to do that. And to be able to just sit. I admit I've been reeling a little this week, from the sharing of my letter, from a meeting I had that evening, from something else that had happened a couple of days before... it all built up a bit and I guess I lost a bit of confidence in myself. So sorry about that. I'll move forward. And just sitting is kind of healing. I guess, really, it's pretty nice to know that people want me to come sit *g*

I've just fed and watered four fifteen year old girls and dropped them at a dance at one of the local colleges. They said they'd walk home afterwards. It's not far. These are all great girls, two of them are brilliant violinists, and they all ate the tacos I made, which was nice. Asher and Finn were a bit overawed in their vibrant company and they just sat and ate quietly! And now it's all peaceful for a couple of hours so I think I'll do some writing, while I am not tired.

ETA: I had to go back and get one of Christy's friends. The dance had constant flickering lights, and this friend is prone to seizures, not a good mix. A friend of mine had a massive Grand Mal (or whatever they call it these days) seizure at our junior school disco one year. It was pretty spectacular. She'd been sitting right beside me and then *pouf* she just went down.
Christy's friend is playing xBox with Finn instead now.

I liked that stuff about 'the art of just sitting' in The Testament. I think it's a really great thing to do sometimes - it's like a way of recharging myself, if that makes sense.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Oh, absolutely. We have a cane basket chair on our front porch, and ten minutes sitting swinging in there and I can go back into the house and feel ready to get on with the chaos of daily life. Or half an hour out there, guitar in hand, and I'm a new person!

So yeah, the whole recharging thing is so necessary!

-I hope you have a lovely weekend.
Thanks! You too!

I've never quite learned the art of sitting. I'm much to restless.

And xBox is much better than seizure-inducing lights.

It's an art you might just need to practise! Nate had to learn, and it made a difference to him. I had to learn it too and I have found serenity. I just have to remind myself to do it when I really need to!! For me!

True. She was happier, I think.

I'm good at just sitting, just so long as I have a cup of coffee in my hand!!

Right now my house is all upside down and I'm surrounded by chaos and suddenly I find I have a story I need to write - why now?? Three thousand words later I still have a lot to write...

You know, I think that is why I keep my coffees going until they are cold! I want that excuse to keep sitting!

You are writing a story? really? what about, and how come and and and ooooh! I'm excited.

Okay I'll send you what I've written so far, but you have to realise that this is a story in progress... you might never be able to read the end...!!!
