Live and let die? Nah, just live.

It's close to midnight again so I'll just do a quick post. We are still away. Fine weather up here. Did the laundry, got it all dry again. No point struggling to post photos here. We walked around the Mount this morning, the children and I, and it was quite busy, with walkers and runners and tourists! We still found some quiet time, and spent some time on the shell beach. We found wonderful hermit crabs in every kind of shell. We saw starfish and big crabs, and I found two intact kina shells, just teeny ones as big as your thumbnail, but absolutely perfect in every detail. I'll try to take a pic if I get them home intact.
We have one more day here tomorrow then we head all the way home on Tuesday morning.

I spent the afternoon with a nice Belgian man, whose son was having a singing lesson with my mother. We talked about education and stuff like that. His daughter, who is just a brilliant young woman, was refused a place in the advanced maths class when she first came to Tauranga Girls' College, because 'there weren't enough desks'...

We sorted it out, my mother and I. I am feeling pretty fragile inside but I'll get over it. I think, writing this, it still hits me hard though. I might go curl up alone in the giant king sized bed and read some dusty, old James Bond novels. There is a whole set in the wardrobe...

We did, we're home and safe and sound and pretty tired!
But it was a great journey.

What sort of shells do you have over there?

I love the beach, starfish and big crabs and kina shells, lovely...though my very best beach experience involved an octopus!!! I still have a pile of NZ paua shells and a starfish sitting outside my front door where I see them every day.. don't want to forget!

Sorry things have been tough there, thinking of you and wishing you a safe journey home.

I want to hear about the octopus!

I'm glad you have a pile of shells. Keeley had a pile, too, in his bedroom *g*

Thanks. I oughtn't be surprised when things go wrong up there, they always do *snort*
Thank goodness we sorted it out and had a good last couple of days. And yay, we made it home in one piece!

We drove safely.

And James Bond! OMG I read one, skimmed another and finally brought the whole collection back to Wellington. They were my father's anyway, my mother doesn't want them. And I've now got all that pain and angst and espionage back here to share with the boys!

I ended up giving ours to one of the schools I worked in doing relief teaching - in the hope that it will encourage boys to read!!

Good idea, anything that gets boys reading. I still haven't found what Finn likes yet. I'm working on it. He's such a picture thinker...
