The Land of Nick

Today was Mothers' Day here in NZ. Christy was staying the night at a friend's so we didn't do anything particularly different until after lunch, when I went out shopping by myself *g* - I bought two guinea pig cages and new duvet covers for the boys. It was fun to be out alone. Later, Christy had some little gifts for me from her and the boys, and Steve had bought me the DVD of Casino Royale VBG!!! More Daniel Craig in my living room.

Christy reminded me that last Mothers' Day we (Christy and I) were in Brisbane, Australia, Nick Earls Land, although of course we didn't see him. But we saw his book adapted as a play at the Roundhouse Theatre, and on the actual Mothers' Day we went to Australia Zoo, wandered Southbank in the dark, bought takeaway crepes for dinner and pudding and watched Love Actually on television in our apartment! *sigh* that was just wonderful.

I have a lot of schoolwork to get through this evening and I really Don't Want To Do It. I've been enjoying having my evenings free. Still, it's good money, people seem to like what I'm doing, and if I don't prepare at night, I will have a shitty day the next day at school. That's the lot of teachers! Still, I think I have easy Mondays on the whole. I'm pretty lucky.

Tuesday will be more difficult. It's Christy's school parents' night. I got Christy to book all the parents' night times for me around six to seven, thinking it's after violin, and Steve could take her to clarinet and I'd pick her up. But now Steve is flying off tomorrow morning to Auckland until Wednesday night, violin is cancelled and I have boys with nowhere to go, Christy with no way to get to Wellington High in the dark, and me stuck on the other side of town at parents' night! OMG! We'll work it out somehow... I might have to drop Christy off early and lose the boys elsewhere.

So, that's me. Oh, wait, it's the final of Huff tonight at 9.40 p.m. OMG, it promises to be as chaotic as the final of the first season! I can hardly wait. I'd better do that schoolwork.

And in honour of Nick, I'll eat a Tim Tam with my coffee *g*

Hope you sorted the childcare logistics!
Evening work is the worst part of full time teaching. When you add it all up you find teachers work an astronomically long week, even taking long holidays into account, and people just say, oh well, it's a part time job - nine to three!!!
Glad you had a nice Mothers' Day. Ours is earlier in the year, way back before Easter.

And this was me being a parent for Christy's college! I have a sinking feeling that I'll have to do the same for my own college before the end of this term!

I did enjoy talking to her Religion teacher then dropping in that I was Head of Department over at the sister school LOL!

I meant all the preparation that has to be done in the evening because you've been in the classroom all day! But parents' evenings are a pain too, whichever side of the desk you're on!!

Tuesday does sound difficult! Hopefully that all gets sorted out!

I remember your trip last year. It sounded like it was a lot of fun and a good experience, for both you and Christy.

Was Brisbane really a year ago? - it doesn't seem that long! By the way your postcard from the central North Island arrived last week, it was lovely - thanks!

Hope you sort out the logistics of Tuesday night....

Yep, a whole year. And I recall it all so clearly, too.

*sigh* a very nice weekend, that was!
