Cocoa's saga...

Well, our guinea pig, Cocoa, is still alive, but he's not well, and not responding to both kinds of antibiotics they offered him. The vet called me this morning and suggested I take him home, either to die or to recover away from the stress of the animal hospital. I mean, guineas are really sensitive to noise and smells, and there they have barking dogs, howling cats and a plethora of odd odours. So there I am at school (I answered my phone in the school library) trying not to weep, and I agreed to pick Cocoa up on my way home from school. Then I had to take a lesson on Loss, Death, Grief and Dying with my Year 12s! I had a list of things we needed to discuss, but I told the girls we wouldn't be addressing the issue of losing a pet (the first item on the list!). I was still very upset but I managed to keep it inside until I collected Cocoa from the vet. I put him in the pocket in the front of my sweatshirt and drove home, weeping pitifully!! I have to admit, I really like Cocoa. Caramello I never really took to at all.

Anyway, we've kept him warm, and Christy and I have taken turns holding him in our laps this evening, and we've put his cage in the living room, to keep him warm. He seems better tonight. We got him to eat some bamboo, and he took his medicine, and we just got him to drink some water and nibble some carrot. So here's hoping.

Whatever, it has added to my stress a little. I'll get by though. My friend who got me the job is adamant that I ask for a day off a week. She knows that otherwise I might chuck it in, just because of the demands of family. She was pinning me down today to say which day would be best. I said Thursday. So I'm leaving that in her hands this week, since the Principal is away anyway, then I'll be off Monday, Tuesday up country on that conference thingy. I never know how to ask for help. I just can't ever bring myself to do it.

And bad weather is apparently coming. I'm hoping for terrible rain Saturday morning and all the sports cancelled. How selfish of me *g*!!! But all three children have to be in different places at the same time, one in Kelburn, one in Hataitai and one in Newlands. Hmmmmm... might just have to ask for some help there! And the rain will help the drought, huh.

Aw, I'm so sorry about Cocoa. It's so hard to have a pet in bad condition.

Aks for help when you need to. It may be tough to do, but it's worth it in the end.

Hoping that Cocoa will pull through, but just to let you know that I'm thinking of you all whatever happens...

The weekend sounds too busy, I'll hope for rain too!!! - if not you definitely need some assistance... people won't mind you asking!

Is the conference thingy going to work out okay with Steve being away? I hope so...

Love and hugs from Italy!!

Poor Cocoa! And poor you.
Are the children upset?
Definitely ask for a 'free' day - and don't fill it up with extras that they ask you to do 'because you have a free day'!!
