The passing of a guinea...

Our beloved Cocoa died today. I am so sad. We tried really hard to save him but he just couldn't breathe this morning. He was such a cute guinea pig, I really miss him heaps. It was so hard taking him to the vet, I didn't want to, I wanted us to just keep him until he died, but Christy didn't want to see him struggling so hard to breathe. And he really was struggling. Finn came to the vet's, too, and he's very sad without really understanding what he's going through. Cocoa was a lively and loving guinea who always cuddled up under your chin, and I guess we're lucky to have had him with us for the last two and a half years. Here's one of Finn's guinea pics from that time, the Night Guinea,

Aw, thanks, it seems silly to be so sad over a guinea, but he was my favourite. And Finn's too. I guess we'll need to get something else to go into that flash cage we just bought him. Maybe a rabbit!

A rabbit sounds good!

it seems silly to be so sad over a guinea
I don't think it's silly at all!! Losing a pet can be rough!

Thanks. Losing our dog was one of the hardest things I ever did. Finn was just a baby, one year old, so we had three children but the dog made it four, and I felt like we'd lost our first child. I couldn't talk about him for weeks without feeling terrible! He was the liveliest dog and he totally controlled our lives back then!!!
Here he is sharing Christy's nappy changing time (he was into EVERYTHING!!!)!

It is never silly to grieve over the death of a pet. They become so dear to us.

I am glad you were able to help him out of his distress. Thinking of you all.

Thanks. The poor little guy just couldn't get a breath in any more. He looked so sweet and trusting. Thanks for thinking of us all here xx

Oh, I'm sorry. I know it's always hard to lose a pet (and guinea pigs are so cute... I cried all day like a baby when mine died during the holidays. Then, waited a month before buying another one.)

Glad it's not just me then ;-)
Thanks. It sure is sad to lose a pet, and yeah, especially a cute one. Cocoa was really fun to cuddle.

Thanks for stopping by.

I'm so sorry to hear your news. Pets are so important in our lives and leave such a hole when they go. You will later be glad you were together, and that you did all you could to ease his last moments. Finn's picture is a fitting memorial.

Yeah, it felt so right to be holding him while he was trying so hard to breathe.
I'm going to miss Cocoa.
Thanks for your kind words. Finn drew that picture in Paint a couple of years ago, I think, and I always liked it.

I was sorry to read of your loss. We lost two cats in the space of about six months and I stayed with both of them as the vet gave them peace. It's hearbreaking but the memory of them is a comfort.

That's sad about your cats, and losing them so close together. Yeah, it is nice to be there with them when they go. Thanks, I appreciate your kind words.

Really sorry to hear the news about Cocoa, it is always so sad when pets die, at least you had time to say goodbye. Thinking of you all today.

Thanks, Viv. Yeah, we were lucky, we had plenty of time to say our goodbyes. Not that it makes it easier, but it wasn't a shock or anything. I still feel sad about him, poor wee guinea. But we will get a rabbit, so that will cheer Finn up no end!

That's right. And he was suffering awfully. So I guess we did the right thing. Thank you so much for your words here.
