This is a view of the town of Taumaranui in the middle of the North Island (the island we live on), from our road trip last holidays. What you see is it pretty much, the whole town. I mean, there are some businesses, factories, plenty of houses, but this is the Main Street, where the only shops are! It's the inspiration behind the town in Breathing Space where Nick lives. The town is buried in the bush really, you can see it ahead in the picture, but really, it's on all sides.

I spent most of this evening crafting three paragraphs on central North Island bush, for Breathing Space, so my evening was fruitful, despite the freezing cold. I also cooked a roast chicken, caught up with friends and answered some emails. Watched Desperate Housewives, and yeah, season three is a LOT better than season two.

I've been toying with some of the reasoning behind Quaker philosophy the last few days (and reading up on Phil Gulley's stuff, not necessarily the most traditional of Quakers!), and there is a lot to be praised for their attitude to the presence of God. I think I'm doing well though, mixing what I know from that and other faiths with what I accept of Catholicism, and I think I can present a clear message to the students I teach without sounding blasphemous. And it's a message of hope and acceptance and fullness and presence of God that exists in each and every person everywhere, without the absolute need for ritual or sacrifice or sacrament. And that's how I like it.

I like your view of God. More of a God of grace.

The town looks almost out of place in the midst of the bush.

Well, I guess if you go far enough through the bush, you're gonna reach a town. And the right hand side of the street is all taken up by the railway station - it's a logging town, mostly, so you can load up the trains there. But it still is in the middle of the bush! Look at this link LOL

I think God is there for anyone who needs God, be it a saint or sinner, kind or nasty person, selfish or giving, God will still be available. And loving.
