Nick has a new book out soon, although it's a joint venture, which is odd but *shrug* better than nothing. He's so lucky to be able to play with his writing these days.

We had an awfully nice time at Mass today... heh, doesn't that sound odd! But it was nice. The music making had us snorting and giggling several times, not least of when we tried to sing the Great Amen by Soane, and it requires the 'boys' on guitar to harmonise. Unfortunately, concentrating on that meant they both stopped playing (men are so bad at multitasking!!), and since I was reading across the piano and over John's shoulder, and he had leaned forward in concentration, I couldn't see the music, so I had to stop playing too, and we had to finish unaccompanied and slightly hysterical *g* - an odd way to end the Eucharistic prayer. I had to read again today during the sermon, but just a paragraph, by an odd monk called Thomas Merton, about a trip to the local township after seven years in the Abbey. He said he thought he'd hate everyone but only felt compassion for the people of this world! He was away from the Abbey for six hours only.

I do like some of his words - I Googled him and found this:
-

"Let there always be quiet, dark churches in which people can
take refuge....Houses of God filled with his silent presence. There,
even when they do not know how to pray, at least they
can be still and breathe easily. ------------(New Seeds of Contemplation)

Since then, I've mostly be working on school work, getting ready for the term ahead. I'm not quite there yet but I have an easy day tomorrow so I can get some more stuff done then, hopefully. I might take a bit of senior marking to bed, stuff I've put off looking at over the last two weeks.

And I have a new bag to house my books this term, a black conference bag sporting the word Nucletron! My friend is a radiation oncologist and it was one of his conference bags! They passed it on to me for my birthday since I don't have a briefcase at the moment. Nucletron is a radiotherapy company. Maybe I'll look clever...

Yeah *sigh* the holidays are over. Back to school today, and it was okay. Kind of exciting to be in the thick of it all again for another term.

I hadn't thought about that, your summer holidays starting already!

Never thought of Thomas Merton as odd. Thinking. Moderniser. Might regret asking this but why do you think him odd?

I just meant odd as in random. Not weird.

Mind you, he was a mystic. Still, a noble and interesting man.

I knew it was you! I did a search, and since it was London...

Why do you care about Merton?

I was curious as to your attitude towards Merton. As though being a mystic was something you thought strange or not quite kosher.

But I didn't have an attitude towards Merton.

I do now.

He is an interesting guy. I like him because he is one of those who leaves the trappings of the church behind and gets on with the job in hand.

I'm sure you always look clever!

Hope tomorrow goes as well as it sounds like it might.

*snort* I think I often look ...challenging, like, 'c'mon, take me I can out-think you' which is somewhat intimidating for people!

Tomorrow, or today, went fine, thank goodness! The preparation was worth it *g*
