Jul. 17th, 2007

So, dear friends, it's nearly time for bed, earlier tonight as I've been working late the last couple of nights and that means, well, not enough time in bed! So. It's half past ten, I aim to be in bed by eleven... a Rob Lowe film came on after the mad Spanish film we all watched and Steve automatically started to tape it for me, and Finn looked across the room and said, 'hey, is that Sam Seaborn?' Heh. I'm so no longer much of a fan, it surprises even me. I always felt the only role he acted successfully after Soda was as Sam. I suspect it has a lot to do with who is writing and directing him.

And no, I don't want to discuss any of that, so don't even try.

It's pretty good being back at school. I am now accepted as a staff member who will be around for a while, and the senior admin are very supportive of my staying around *g* My classes are used to me and so the work just goes on as normal now really. I have heaps to do still, to really get things off the ground and flowing successfully. I have such a different style to the last DRS, it's weird getting things to go the way I like it, but worth the effort. Lots of people like my classroom now. The last DRS didn't go in for any work on the walls by the students. She had her set-up of posters about Caritas, and they never moved, for a long time. I know she was a good teacher, but I don't even understand how she did things *shrug* ...It's little things. Like you know how you go into a kitchen, and you expect the dishwashing liquid to be under the sink, the coffee cups handy, that sort of thing, but now and then people do it really differently. Well, computers are kind of like that. I inherited the last teacher's computer, and she put things in folders in different ways to the way I would do it, so it's been really hard to find the things that would be useful. I'm just finding things now that I could have used last term LOL!

Anyway, time is passing and I have a busy day tomorrow for which I need to do some more preparation. New topics, assessments, being completely organised... aaaaaaaaaaargh! So. Have a good day, if your day is just beginning. A good evening if you're headed that way. C u l8r.
Nah, just kidding, I'm all texted out, see you later. Oh, and Finn is out of his plaster cast. A bit sore but all that means is no sport or violin for a week or two. Jack Rabbit? Still cute!

Lovely to hear you feeling so settled and fulfilled in your role at school... Makes all the hard work worthwhile.

It was actually really nice to go back to school, even though it is hard work. I am liking it very much... so far *g*

Great pic!!

Good to hear things are going well at the school. I enjoyed the kitchen metaphor too, because it's completely true! You get used to things being a certain way, and you just assume they're that way everywhere!

Yeah, like there was a whole folder called DAN and I thought it might be something private or frivolous, and it turned out to have some really good stuff in it, resources made by someone called Dan or something, which meant something to the last woman but not to me!

Awwww! Jack is one cute bunny!

I know exactly what you mean about other people's ways of organising storage, whether in kitchens, computers, or classrooms. I think that's why reachers have to spend loads of time reinventing the wheel. Unless the other person's work has been developed deliberately for other people to use, it's almost inaccessible.

Excuse me while I go off and finally cull all the shelves of lesson plans, worksheets and so on that are still in my bookcase a year after I officially retired 'because they might come in handy'.

I was busy thinking, hmmmm, what is a reacher, some historic thing Moth knows about that I don't... *g*

And yeah, get rid of those resources, so you can say NO NEVER AGAIN!!!
