Bits and pieces

Today, Monday, the entire senior school was reeling from the after-effects of the senior Ball. My first class, Year 13s, they were like zombies, and my teaching felt like a lecture, and they didn't say a word all lesson! By the end of the day, when I took my Year 12s, they too were zombie like and just stared at me for most of the lesson. I felt like I was teaching the most boring thing in the world, and yet the work we did was really interesting. When I leapt up and said, we're going down the hall to the computer room to look at some really cool 360 degree church sites, no one moved, and I reached the room alone! I had to go back and fetch them! Back in the classroom again I felt like a lecturer once more. I asked one of my best students a question and she groaned and said, 'please don't ask me today, can you ask me tomorrow? I'm just too tired to answer!'

I had a PD (professional development) meeting after school with the Deans and the French teacher. Surprisingly, they asked if I was staying, and they asked me to please stay on as a teacher in the school. I thought that was nice. I don't have any professional ties with them but they really like me *g*

We had a music practice tonight, at a friend's house, and it was nice to jam about a bit in the warmth of a living room. I tried to play the guitar for a change, but ended up back on the piano most of the time. My friend with MS came and played a little bit, but she can't play much or for long, so it was only to teach us some new songs. She still can't play at Mass.

And it's been a busy afternoon, my friend's daughter had her 21st birthday afternoon tea - I took the children up there for that, then Asher had rep soccer, then we went to the supermarket to stock up on food to make lunches easier to make, then I cooked dinner for everyone, then had my music practice... then dinner. Then I read Harry Potter to the children, and the cat came in for a while but didn't stay this time. It's even odd that she comes in but odder still that she won't stay round but wanders off back to the living room. Thank goodness violin is cancelled tomorrow - just got a text about that - there's a meeting at school tomorrow night, I have no idea what it is about though. Oh, and clarinet is at the same time, I suspect. Lord knows what else will pop up...

And my friend went for an interview for a Deputy Principal's job on Saturday. They kept her for two hours, asking her difficult questions and giving her tricky teaching scenarios to work on and come up with solutions. Odd, huh. But maybe it means ultimately they will have made a well-thought out choice. They interviewed four people. I'd love her to get the chance to give the job a go.

And I'm really tired. Going to bed now. See you later, alligator.

How frustrating to have planned interesting lessons only to find that your classes are half asleep! Perhaps the school should have given the seniors the day off?!

I think the girls should have been better by Monday. I just said to Cari that they are wimps LOL!

They weren't a lot better today really. Quite pathetic! Then again, I played Gregorian chants while I taught about that era, so they might have been a little lulled!

Okay, I shall stop feeling vaguely sympathetic... come to think of it, I never had any trouble doing the all night thing at their age...(still don't really!!!!)

Why did they do the Senior Ball on a school night? Why not give the girls the weekend to recover?

Get some sleep you!!

The ball was on a Saturday night, but the girls stayed up most of Saturday night/Sunday morning, and didn't recover enough Sunday night!! They are wimps!

And sleep, yeah! Trying! One of my fellow teachers told me she got up at half past two this morning to mark work!! OMG! I said, you're working too hard. Even I am not that dedicated!

Aw, yeah, that's a lot of recovery time! I suppose this is probably one of the few times they stayed up that late though, so it's understandable.

That's insane!!

That's a good point. I guess they're not used to it really.
