WHEE! Today I got a postcard from Viv and Moth, from their last meeting in one of their towns! And it's lovely, and so nice to get something tangible in the mail. Thanks, you two. I'm so glad you have met a few times now and become good friends *g*

Today was a weird day but a good one. I'm teaching racism in social justice this week and apparently it's that week on LJ or something *frowns* don't know what that's all about but it can't be a bad thing, huh! I recall when a friend I had in the States years ago was horrified that our national rugby team was called the All Blacks, but it's to do with their clothes - they wear black!!! We still have racist attitudes here in NZ, for sure, against Maori, Samoan, Asians, Arabs, you name it, someone will have some generalisation to utter, but on the whole we really are a very peaceful multicultural society. Maybe it's partly due to the fairly laid-back attitude of Kiwis, I dunno. I have all kinds of cultures in my classroom these days and I love it. Thursday I'm sending a teacher and twenty girls down to the Islamic Centre for a tour!

We had a half day at school then a Paid Union Meeting. An entire opera house full of teachers, OMG what a pack of... dorks! But well meaning and caring dorks, we are! I can see trouble ahead, the government is not listening to us at all. I'm not complaining, I am pretty impressed with my job and salary just now. Then again, I'm not even the main salary earner, so I've got that part of it easy! Turns out I might get even more money because I have a post-grad diploma! When will it end?! heh.

So. Monday is getting dark and Finn should be back from his bike ride by now. I'd better go look out for him...

The postcard has become a ritual! (A nice one).

As you know, I worked in multicultural/anti-racist teaching for ages. There's a lot of very strange political correctness out there - apparently one nursery school here has been teaching 'Baa baa rainbow sheep' to avoid offending parents... This may be an invention by one of our newspapers but it indicates a thought process that exasperates people who truly do want a very peaceful multicultural society.

Yes, the postcard are definitely a tradition now!!!!

So much political correctness is about what people perceive will offend other people... I often wonder if anyone bothers checking whether the group in question really think about it... I do know that we often end up with some very strange contorted language being used!

I think every nation still has problems with racist attitudes. From what I've heard though, your nation is pretty good, or at least making progress.

Yeah, we try hard. We're very multicultural, multi religious, multi talented *g* heh! We're pretty much a peace loving kind of nation ...if we'd just stop abusing our children and raping the women who wander round after dark...
