Hey there, team. So, Monday has been and gone here, and I'm off to bed. It was a very tense day at school as everyone tries to be calm as report page after report page comes back with tiny errors that require editing. Our boss won't let a single error past the door, which is good, but frustrating when each girl has at least six report pages by six people, with a whanau teacher page on top of all that. And if a girl's real name is Juanita and we call her Nita all the time, we have to use Juanita at least the first time. And if her name is really Francesca Juanita, then dammit, we have to call her Francesca! And if she always puts two dots above the e in Zoe but the report header doesn't, then dammit, we can't do that either... must have double spaces after each full stop, must not use capitals for general unit standards but capitals for particular ones, no numbers this year, no hyphen in co-operative... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

Then all the Year 12 Religious Education reports had the wrong teachers on them, so I kept getting reports to edit that weren't mine! And my Year 13 reports didn't seem to have printed, so I kept getting asked for them from each whanau teacher one at a time until I clicked that the whole lot hadn't been done. And so on... our DP said something that really shocked me today, and I had to go back and write her a note, and thank goodness she did an about face and we fixed the problem. She can't blame me for things the previous teacher set up, and no one bothered to pass on to me! But it meant I had to spend an hour after lunch interviewing senior students about assignments. OMG! What a day! And at the very end, the boss called me into her office and asked me how I felt about staying on in the job.

Much to think about today. I'm teaching my senior Ethics class about domestic violence and we watched a documentary on Kiwi men who have beaten their wives, then we watched some of Sleeping with the Enemy. The girls are fascinated. They didn't get why women don't just leave, but I think they're getting a better idea now of how helpless and powerless a victim of domestic violence can be.

The day is over now here in this corner of the world, and I should be working but I'm really tired. I shall go read in bed.

Hope your day went well. Thinking of you all, especially dextress in hospital somewhere away.

Sounds like suck a lot of work for those reports, and so tedious!

That domestic violence issue is interesting. It's completely illogical that they would stay, but there's really no way they can leave either.

Hope you get some rest!

Yeah, well, that's kind of the message I wanted the girls to get, that some women get so totally disempowered, if that's a word, that they don't know how to get away, and have no means to do so.

Don't you love bureaucracy!! I think we have made the whole reporting process too cumbersome and time consuming... and although we churn out masses of information now, I have a suspicion that many parents do not find it very helpful!

Nah, you're right, no report really tells you much when it all boils down to a few numbers and some carefully worded sentences.

The grandfather of a boyfriend I once had used to say, graveyards are full of indispensible people

Just sayin...

Is it possible to do a job-share on this job?

Well, it could be if anyone else wanted it... which they don't! But I might be able to trade a few hours or something.
