Rambling at midnight

So, we have a new iMac arriving, maybe tomorrow! I bought one over the phone after quite a lot of net research! I spoke with a really nice guy who has a small Mac-ish business and can offer the same prices but much better service than the renowned #$*@s at Magnum Mac who ignored us completely at our last shopping venture (naturally we didn't buy anything from them) or the big shopping chains, whose service would be dubious.

This afternoon three of us took a swag of children (let me think, nine) and two dogs over to the coast at Breaker Bay to explore the rock pools, then we all walked up to the hill above Fort Dorset and sat in the sun at the top of the world while the children played tag... then it suddenly rained. Then it poured. We all got wet! I took some photos before the rain, blue sky and all, I'll post them later. It's four minutes to midnight now and I need to run to bed. Steve's squash guys came here tonight and watched True Romance. Great movie if you love rampaging violence and multiple killings! And we watched a really good French movie yesterday, Cache, and it was great right up to the end, when it just finished abruptly, apparently to leave it ambiguous. We were left frowing, saying, 'What the hell?' but it was a good movie, with a stunningly horrific suicide scene near the end that made me yell aloud in surprise. The French was much easier to understand than some movies we see. Not that I really understand it properly *g* je ne parle pas le francais really mais je can sometimes read it *g*

We just finished Harry Potter tonight (apart from the epilogue) and I was so surprised with the result, it was good, clever and challenging. It was better than I had hoped for, and I am in awe of JK Rowling as an author. I'd never be able to be as clever a writer. Then again, I don't write fantasy either. It's a whole different approach to problem solving, huh *g* But oh, we loved Harry Potter, all seven books have been read aloud by me and they have all worked wonders on the children. I had to stop the tears from falling in the final scenes. I know my voice was wracked with emotion.

And so, that's us for the night. Bon nuit... ?! Bonne nuit? *shrug* je ne sais plus.

I thought the ending to Harry Potter was just about as satisfactory as it could be... and you were never really sure till the very end, very clever...

Glad you all enjoyed it too!

That's a good way to put it. I couldn't imagine how else to do it and still keep children feeling whole and kind of secure! After all, it was still fiction for children, wasn't it. We just have the last epilogue sort of bit to read tonight. Then... I don't know what I'll read to them next!

Hooray for new toys!

The day out sounds nice, except for the rain. Still fun though.

I liked the ending to HP too. It was the epilogue I took issue with.

Looking forward to it! I've heard a lot of different views, so I'm interested in seeing what you have to say.

It must have been lovely to share HP instead of just chatting to people afterwards!

It has indeed been great to share the book, the excitement, the twists and turns in this one, the tension, and most of all the fear about what would happen to Harry. I'm glad we missed the spoilers, here and at school!

Yes I really miss reading aloud to the boys... they grew and lives got too busy, but I miss it, the sharing of ideas, the anticipation... we still talk about books but it's not the same!!
